Shootin' some b-ball!

Austin has been in basketball this season.  He plays through the school now so all his practices are either before or after school and all his games are during the week!  He has had so much fun and is a really good player!  He steals the ball all the time and is really good at making shots.  He has had a little bit of trouble with his Osgood-Schlatters disease, but overall does pretty good.  I have been to almost all his home games and the girls and I really enjoy watching him play.  The first game we went to Keziah actually brought her pom poms and cheered him on (I'm sure he was gritting his teeth the whole time)!  We are always sure to take lots of snacks and a back pack full of stuff to do!  Austin is on the 'B' team so his team usually doesn't play until around 5.  I stick supper in the oven before I leave and set the timer and voila...it is ready to eat when we get home!  One of his home games I got to see he actually made a buzzer shot and won the game!  I was so proud of him!  His last game is Feb. 9 and we will be sad when it is over, but next up is track and he is pretty excited about that too!

Austin's knee...

I don't think I have ever officially mentioned Austin's leg, so here I go...Around Christmas time Austin started mildly complaining that his leg hurt just below the knee.  It would hurt and then get better so we just assumed that it was tendinitis and suggested he try taking IBU regularly and if that didn't work that we would take him to the doctor to get it looked at.  He didn't think it hurt enough to take IBU so he never did making me believe it must not be that bad.  He occasionally mentioned it but for the most part acted like it was fine.  Sometime in  the middle of January Austin was having some pretty severe pain after his knee buckled getting out of his dad's jeep.  After taking him to the doctor and getting x-rays it was determined that he had a broken tibia.  And after seeing an orthopedic surgeon a few days later it was determined that he had Osgood-Schlatter's disease.  This is a very common condition found in mostly boys between the age of 9-16.  His tibia broke as a result of this and thus began the healing process (and the end of his basketball season).  He was sent home with a leg brace and told to be seen back in 2 weeks, at that apt. he was told to wear it another 4 weeks and then just recently on March 2nd, another 6 weeks.  We go back on April 13th and probably by then he will be able to go without it.  Until then he is really going to have to be careful and keep his brace on.  Easier said then done for an active 12 year old!  Heaven help us!

Shootin' some b-ball!

Here is Austin's basketball team!  Some of his best friends are on his team!
There have been several games that I haven't been able to attend and a couple that I have.  I always take the girls with and they always have a great time!  This particular day of games (there is always at least 2 games) was the first one we were able to go to and they were in Denver.  Keziah was too afraid to cheer for Austin out loud (if you can believe that!) but she cheered for him in whispers.  The boys played great.  It makes sports so much more fun when Austin is the one playing them!  There will eventually be some videos at the bottom of this page too!

My guy is #13!

For the first time today I got to watch Austin play some basketball. Sadly, today was also the last day of basketball. I haven't felt like I could take both little kids to his games by myself but being that it was his last tournaments, I decided I was going to brave it. He has really gotten into it this year a lot. He took last year off since he didn't like it very well two years ago. This year he was asked to play on a team with some friends that wasn't through the REC so he decided to try it out. They haven't won a lot of their games but they have fun anyway! I was extremely proud of Austin and had so much fun watching him play. Who would have thought I could actually enjoy a sport! I usually do though when it's him playing! The first game they played they won 30 to 27. It was a really exciting game. That put them through to play the next game which they lost. After the games were over I took the kids to the McDonald's playplace in Mason City (where the games were) to eat lunch. We had a great day together. I look forward to seeing more games next year. There will be some videos at the bottom of the screen soon!
